About the Author

Renea Breashears (she/her) helps those ready for authenticity to live boldly as their highest selves. Through her books, the Om Sacred blog, yoga classes, and guided meditations on Insight Timer, Renea offers tools and insights for personal growth and inner peace.

One of Renea’s earliest passions in life was writing. Through this art form, she found meaning and grounding in life in the midst of a chaotic childhood. Later in life, she decided to pursue her writing gifts seriously through graduate level creative writing studies. Her poetry has appeared in a collaborative exhibit with The Dallas Museum of Arts.

When her writing endeavors were postponed while she worked to extricate herself and her son from an abusive relationship, Renea eventually found her way to meditation and yoga. Yoga provided a profound level of healing, in combination with counseling and group coaching. Renea knew she wanted to share the gift of yoga with others, and she became certified as a yoga teacher, breathwork coach, and flexibility coach.

Throughout her life, Renea has been deeply attuned with nature and the spiritual realm. She was discontented with her early church experiences in the evangelical world and spent several years of her early adulthood as an agnostic—she would never deny the existence of God; she was only angry with the version of God with whom she was raised. In her late 20’s, Renea experienced what she defines as a “Lt. Dan” moment with God, where she had it out with God and received unequivocal confirmation that, yes, God is there and God cares. She eventually found her way to a mainline church, where her questions about God were celebrated instead of squelched. She also studied and participated in Buddhist spiritual practices. In 2020, Renea had an awakening experience that transformed her personal journey. She has since studied with a kahuna as a Hawaiian spiritual healer.

After years of healing work, Renea was in a group support meeting for mothers. She was heartbroken at how stuck these mothers were—that they could no longer remember how to experience joy or that they had their own lives outside of their children. While the group was specifically for mothers, the experience of these women spoke to patterns within the larger collective consciousness, whereby we have forgotten that in order to love our neighbors well, we must first love ourselves well. This dysfunctional pattern holds us hostage to limited ways of being that prevent us from living our dreams, fulfilling our destinies, and becoming our highest selves. It is a recipe that makes our hearts, minds, bodies, and spirits sick.

During that meeting, when Renea saw so clearly how these women were standing in their own way, and by extension, standing in the way of their children, she realized Spirit was calling her to use her gifts as a writer to help others by sharing her story. It is not a story Renea wanted to tell. It is full of heartbreak, mishaps, poor choices, maladaptive coping mechanisms, fury, embarrassment, and more. But it is also full of healing, awakening, self-acceptance, building a path to freedom, and finding joy and a lasting sense of peace. It is a story that needed to be told.

Renea’s hope by sharing her story is that it will embolden others to step outside of their fears and to have the courage to do the hard work necessary to live not just a healthy life, but their highest existence. She wants others to know that just because the process is complex, it does not mean the answer is not simple.

When Renea is not writing or practicing yoga, she loves to spend time with her son, to go for hikes or spend time outdoors, and to play with her Scooby-Doo-esque dog (this doggo’s lack of proprioception has all 70 lbs of her doggo self skidding into walls and knocking things over with her tail).
